What the hell is it with Mondays? Last week I had computer problems. Pretty much every single computer I have in my store wasn't working. Fun, fun, fun! I couldn't send or receive any email, which is sometimes not really an issue. On Monday mornings, it's an issue. The computer that runs the store wouldn't open, which means that...I can't open the store. And basically it was a crappy day all around. Happy Birthday to me.
Today, I went in hoping that the computers would be ok. One of them had frozen sometime in the night, so I rebooted as per my previous instructions. And then I turned on the lights.
When I turned the lights on I discovered my bathroom ceiling on the bathroom floor in a rather large puddle. I've seen this happen before, so I was fairly certain I knew what it was. However, I didn't know how to deal with it. Who do I call? Mall Maintenance? Our head office? A plumber?
I called Monica.
Before I called Monica I did try and contact Mall Maintenance, but I was unable to. So, after I talked to her, I went out into the mall to find someone that could radio a maintenance man to come and look. Happily I didn't have to wander too far till I found someone. And the guys were at the back door waiting for me to let them in before I could even get back to my store. They told me what I already knew, that the hot water tank had died, and they shut the water off. Not at the hot water tank mind you...that continued to drip all day. Instead they shut the water off at the floor. I don't know why, I assume to stop the tank from filling up again, but I'm not positive. All I know is that in doing that, they also shut off the toilet.
So not good.
Anyway, after the maintenance guys left, I called my boss who told me to get it fixed. Then I emailed the lady at the office that's responsible for that sort of thing, who forwarded the responsibility onto someone else, who got in touch with the plumbers. Who got there FAST. Which was great.
I also got a really excellent quote for having the carpets cleaned....which also needs to be done.
So in the end, the day was ok, but it sure didn't start out very well.
