So the story goes like this:
This guy named Andrew Davidson lives in Winnipeg and is an extremely thorough researcher. When he decided to write a book he did what he does best, and found the most respected editor and sent the book to that person. To make it stand out, he bound it in leather.
The editor read the book, and decided to do what he/she never does, and wrote him a letter with some suggestions. A month or so later, the revised version arrived, also leather bound. At that point, one of the Canadian editors was in the office in New York, and read the book, and immediately signed him.
The book is called The Gargoyle, and it's a love story.
The main character produces, writes, directs and stars in porn films. He uses a lot of drugs, and drinks like a fish. We meet him as he's driving in his car, drinking straight from a bottle of bourbon, and in the middle of a cocaine (or perhaps it's herion) induced hallucination. The hallucination results in him crashing his car, and it catching on fire. Unfortunately he is trapped in the fire and he is horrifically burned. As luck would have it, the car then rolls over and lands in a stream, which puts the fire out.
He comes to in a hospital burn ward. Remembering that the author is a thorough researcher, there are many descriptions of the burns, of the procedures required to heal them. For the squeamish - this is over quite quickly.
One day, a lady enters the man's room. She is quite obviously a patient from elsewhere in the hospital. He quickly determines it's the psych ward. She makes a ridiculous claim that they know each other. He is positive that he's never met her before. Yet she knows things about him that she shouldn't know.
The lady returns often. And she tells them about when they first met, hundreds (I can't remember the exact number) of years earlier. This story continues throughout the rest of the book. She also tells him the love stories of other people she's known throughout time.
It's a love story, that continues through time.
I believe that this book is due to be released on August 5th. Please read it! It's wonderful.
